ISWA and the University of Malaya cordially invite you to the 2nd ISWA Summer School on Solid Waste Management. The focus of this Summer School is on Landfill issues in developing economies and will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 12th to 23rd of August 2013. developing economies have already fulfilled the first priority of waste management: to retain public health. However, they are still struggling with environmental and natural conservation problems. Among different solid waste management approaches, landfilling still is the most common practice in developing economies and this has economic advantages on the one hand, but undoubtedly grave environmental disadvantages on the other.

The Faculty of Science of the University of Malaya will be hosting this two-week course. Experts from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia will cover hot topics on Solid Waste Management in developing economies such as landfill siting, design and construction, operation, landfill leachate, landfill gas and public health and safety issues. In addition to these topics, the practical impact on global warming through landfill gas, and how to reduce this effect, will be emphasised in the 2nd ISWA Summer School.
